Firefox 3 beta released for testing

Mozilla has announced the release Firefox 3.0 Beta 1. Don't necessarily scrap your existing version of Firefox quite yet, however, as this release is intended for testing purposes so that the developers can get feedback before moving forward with the browser's development.

New features and improvements of this version include improved security, easier use, improved performance, a better platform for developers and more customisation options to give it your own personal touch.

Mozilla said this release would give a taste of what the final product would be like, but that there was "more to come, and much of what you'll see is still a bit rough around the edges".

There is no set date for the final version of Firefox 3, as the developers have said that a final version would be released only once they had qualified the product as fully ready for users.

Those who are curious to try it out are warned that installation of this browser

version will overwrite the existing version.

Bookmarks and browsing history will not be lost, but some extensions and add-ons

are unlikely to work until updates are made available.

Fortunately, if it is installed, it can be removed and replaced with an older version without the loss of bookmarks, browsing history, add-ons and other extensions. So all one really stands to lose is time.

It can be downloaded from here

and is already available in 20 languages for Linux and Macintosh. Gujarati speakers running Windows will unfortunately have to wait, as the Windows version is only available in 19 languages.
