Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 and Red Hat Directory Server Win SIIA CODiE Awards
Red Hat (NYSE:RHT), the world's leading provider of open source solutions, today announced that the Software & Information Industry Association (SIIA) has recognized two Red Hat solutions in its 23rd annual CODiE Awards, a highly competitive and peer-reviewed awards program that celebrates outstanding achievement and vision in the industry.
Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 placed first in the Best Open Source Solution category and Red Hat Directory Server was recognized as the winner in the Best Identity Management Solution category.
"The 2008 CODiE Awards recognize those companies providing the best new technology products and services across a broad array of industries," said SIIA President Ken Wasch. "The awards and their winners are a testament to the power of technology to deliver innovative solutions to American businesses and consumers. SIIA congratulates all of the CODiE Award winners and nominees, whose innovation is essential for continuing America’s leadership in the global knowledge economy."
Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 debuted in March 2007 and is the world's leading open source application platform. The solution incorporates cutting-edge virtualization technologies, includes over 3,000 certified applications in its broad ecosystem and delivers flexibility with the ability to deploy across many computing environments. It was recognized by the CODiE Awards as ”the best software solution developed from source code in either the pubic domain or licensed according to an open source license, including operating systems, databases, applications, infrastructure, etc.” in the Best Open Source Solution category.
Red Hat Directory Server forms the central repository for an Identity Management infrastructure and simplifies user management, eliminating data redundancy and automating data maintenance. It also improves security by storing policies and access control information, and creates a single authentication source across the entire enterprise for both intra- and extranet applications. Placing first in the Best Identity Management Solution category, Directory Server was recognized as the ”software solution that best provides security to correctly identify authorized users. This includes user authentication solutions, virtual private networks, etc.”
“We are thrilled to have been recognized by our peers in two CODiE Awards categories for the leading open source solution and the best-of-breed in security management,” said Paul Cormier, executive vice president and president, Products and Technologies at Red Hat. ”We work with a robust open source community and customer base to deliver our high-value solutions to the industry, and this recognition is a testament to the collaborative nature of the open source development model. As our customers continue to demand the highest-quality solutions for their mission-critical infrastructures, we will continue to deliver on our value proposition.”
