elevateIT Project nominated for Award as Innovation in Content Management

— filed under:

Among four other candidates the Open Source project of the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work, based on the CMS elevateIT, has been nominated for this year's International Information Industry (III) Award in the category "innovation in content management".

The International Information Industry Award is organized by Online Information and Information World Review. Online Information is an annual international exhibition and conference addressing online content and information management solutions. The conference takes place in London from 29th of November until first of December 2005. It is an important event for information professionals, information management professionals and business decision-makers.

Every year project awards are being given in four categories:

  1. Innovation in Knowledge Management
  2. Innovation in Content Management
  3. Best Intranet or Extranet Project
  4. Best implementation of a Business Blog

These awards recognise excellence in projects, which have been implemented in any type of organisational environment anywhere in the world. In each category the judges are looking for examples of clearly defined benefits to the organisation, as well as examples of an innovative approach to problem-solving.

The elevateIT CMS serves as platform for the new global safety and health portal website of the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work. During the past year Munich-based SYSLAB.COM has migrated 60 sites to the new system on the basis of their Open Source product. Following the integration and migration of the main websites and the Focal Point sites, the Agency decided to develop further functionalities and to migrate its own homepage, the European Portal website, to the new CMS portal system. SYSLAB.COM has thereby made the necessary implementations and given technical support to the Agency. For the new CMS-Portal-System the latest version of the product elevateIT 1.0 has been applied.

Of the 60 Sites:

• 7 are Campaign websites

• 3 are Central Sites

• 28 are European Partner websites

• 10 are International Partners websites and

• 12 are German federal state sites

The new layout was activated on 9th of September 2005. This date also counts as the official operating start of the new network. One of the technical innovations of the system is the portal entrance. This facilitates a consistent access to the various information of the network. For the first time it is now possible to directly view and query all information about Safety and Health at Work, all Partner websites and service functions.

Thus the system will for instance connect the visitor directly to sought-after information about a certain topic as well as to the partner websites, if required. The "Top 5" topics display the visitors´ state of interest, while the two portlets "News" and "Events" give an overview of current happenings about safety and health at work in the EU. The user furthermore has the possibility to personalize the site and to subscribe the Agency's newsletter. The unrestricted access to all information about the Agency and its publications and activities rounds up the picture.

"Our new website is the first global portal to occupational safety and health information for people involved in risk prevention at work,” explains Hans-Horst Konkolewsky, the Agency’s Director.

The winner of the International Information Industry Awards will be announced at the Royal Lancaster Hotel, London on Wednesday 30th of November during a gala evening with dinner co-hosted by Online Information and Information World Review.
